Neil MacDonald is the executive vice president and general manager of Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s multi-billion-dollar Compute business. During his 27 years at Hewlett-Packard Company (HP) and Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), Neil has brought his passion for customers and high-quality engineering to leading product organizations on four continents, developing servers, storage, networking, data center orchestration, supercomputing, and consumer electronics products by innovating in ASICs, hardware, firmware, software, and services.
Previously, Neil served as general manager of the Compute Solutions business unit, which included Edgeline and the mission-critical NonStop and Superdome server families. Before that, Neil led the development and introduction of Synergy, the world’s first composable infrastructure platform, and ramped the business to over $1B. He also served as VP of strategy for HPE’s storage business and held a variety of R&D, product management, supply chain, and M&A integration roles in HP’s server, storage, networking, and consumer electronics businesses.
Prior to joining HP, Neil was commercial manager at Edinburgh Parallel Computing Centre, bringing the transformational benefits of massively parallel supercomputing to industrial and commercial customers.
Neil previously served on the board of Pensando Systems, acquired by AMD in 2022, and currently serves as board chair for the Northern California Rugby Football Union Referee Society. He is a director certified by the National Association of Corporate Directors, earned the Climate Designation from Competent Boards, and has completed the Third Sector Company’s Board Chairs Academy.
Neil earned a BSc with honors in Artificial Intelligence with Computer Science and a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Edinburgh. He also holds an MBA from San Jose State University.
