Joe Hurd is a technology executive and strategic advisor and serves on a number of public and nonprofit boards.
Hurd is the Global Managing Director at SOSV, LLC, a $750M early-stage venture fund, where he leads strategy and business development efforts for the fund’s life sciences, deep technology and consumer-facing mobile portfolio companies. He is also a venture partner for Good Growth Capital, a woman-led venture fund, and he advises numerous innovative Silicon Valley-based pre-seed and seed stage startups on go-to-market strategy, revenue models, and international expansion, with a particular emphasis on diverse founders.
Hurd built his business career leading strategic business development, strategy, and sales teams at Facebook, Gannett, and AOL/TimeWarner and has worked in the US, the UK, Japan, Korea, Australia, South Africa and Southeast Asia. During President Obama’s first term (2009-2012), he served as a senior political appointee in the Commerce Department with an international trade policy portfolio. Currently, he is a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Trilateral Commission, the American Bar Association, and the National Association of Corporate Directors. He received a JD from Harvard Law School, a Master of International Affairs from Columbia University, and an AB cum laude from Harvard College.
